Maya Price Therapy
Relational, anti-oppressive therapist for trans/queer folks, neurodivergent community & sex workers.

About Me & My Philosophy
Hi, I’m Maya (she/her). I am a relational, somatic, and psychodynamic psychotherapist. I am a middle-aged trans woman nearly a decade into my own transition. I have AuDHD and OCD. I have lived experience of sex work. My practice is deeply informed not just by clinical training, but by a lived understanding of what it feels like to navigate a world as a marginalised, queer, neurodivergent woman.I don't pretend to be a blank slate, and in our sessions, you get my full, genuine self. I bring warmth, humour, deep care, and unapologetic humaness. My pictures, teddy bears, skincare, and low lighting all make up the background of the Zoom window you will see me in each week. I am a human, living a life.I view you as the ultimate expert on your own life, and my role is to be alongside you as you unmask, reconnect with your body, and build trust in your own experience and the decisions you make. When I’m not in therapist mode, I enjoy slow, quiet mornings, hunting for bargains in charity shops, walking in shaded woods, expressing myself through clothing and makeup, and letting my nervous system rest in low-demand, affirming spaces.I don’t sit in silence behind a clipboard, nor do I view your brain or body as something ‘broken’ that needs to be fixed. My approach is rooted in the understanding that your patterns, anxieties, and survival strategies didn't appear out of nowhere; they were brilliant adaptations to your history, your nervous system's need for safety, and the culture and systems you’ve had to navigate.I am a registered member of the BACP and hold a Level 4 Advanced Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling (NCPS Accredited).
My Approach
Therapy with me isn't about sitting in silence while I take notes behind a clipboard, nor is it about giving you quick-fix advice. It is an active, human, and collaborative space where we work with your whole self, including your story, your nervous system, your identity, your beliefs, your relationships and the systems and structures you exist within. To do this, I draw on a few core ways of working:Relational TherapyWhat it means: Healing happens in safe relationships. I don’t pretend to be a ‘blank slate’ but bring my authentic self into the space. What it feels like: We pay attention to what happens between us in real time. We practice what it feels like to have different perspectives without fear of conflict, judgment, or abandonment.Somatic & Polyvagal WorkWhat it means: Trauma, stress, and survival habits live in our bodies and nervous systems. What it feels like: When your intellect tries to make sense of a feeling to keep you safe, we slow down and gently check in with your body. We look at where you carry tension, breath, or numbness, helping your nervous system learn it is finally safe enough to drop its guard.Parts Work & Inner ChildWhat it means: We are all made up of different ‘parts’ like the self-critical part, or the young inner child carrying old pain. What it feels like: Instead of trying to fix or suppress uncomfortable feelings, we approach them with deep curiosity. We ask, ‘How old does this part feel?’ and 'What is it trying to protect you from?’ We help your young or exhausted parts step out of survival mode.Psychodynamic & Anti-Oppressive StanceWhat it means: Your distress doesn't exist in a vacuum. It is shaped by your unique personal history, as well as the culture, systems, and structures (like neurotypical standards, cishet normativity, transphobia, and/or racism) you've had to navigate. What it feels like: We connect the dots between your past and present, while explicitly removing personal shame from systemic harm.
My Values & Commitments
Therapy doesn’t happen in a vacuum. The distress, anxiety, and trauma we carry are deeply intertwined with the systemic, political, and cultural structures we navigate as minoritised people. I believe that an authentic, human-centred therapeutic practice must be explicitly anti-oppressive and committed to personal and collective liberation.I think it’s important you know who is holding space for you. Here is where I stand:I provide an explicitly LGBTQ+, neurodivergent and sex work-affirming space. I reject cis-heteronormativity, misogyny, pathologisation, repression work and the policing of gender and expression.I fully support the absolute right of every individual to make choices about their own body. I stand unequivocally for the right to safe, accessible, and legal abortion.I welcome sex workers into my practice without judgement, pathologisation, or moralising. I support sex workers’ rights, safety, and bodily autonomy.I am against state violence, colonial oppression, apartheid, and war crimes. I stand firmly in solidarity with the Palestinian people in their fight for justice, safety, dignity, and liberation. I view the ongoing genocide in Gaza as an abhorrent stain on humanity.I don’t believe I, or anyone else, is free from bias or prejudice. I remain committed to uncovering where those things lie in me and to actively dismantling them.My role as a therapist is to hold a safe, transparent, and relational space where you can explore your internal world without having to justify your existence, explain your identity, or fight against the oppressive assumptions of traditional therapy.I don’t have all the answers, and I don’t hold moral authority. I have biases, unanswered questions, and regrets. I also have a wonderful clinical supervisor who I meet with regularly, who helps me to self-reflect and process.
Who I Work With
I work primarily with trans people, the wider LGBTQ+ community, neurodivergent folks, sex workers, and those navigating kink, BDSM, or alternative relationship structures.I work exclusively online. I am based in the UK, but I am insured to work with clients worldwide. My practice is specifically designed for adults looking for longer-term weekly support who might find they are used to over-functioning, people-pleasing, chronic masking, sensory burnout, harsh self-criticism, intense emotional overwhelm and/or feeling completely disconnected from themselves.Areas I commonly support include: Complex trauma (CPTSD), identity & transition, anxiety, childhood SA, abandonment, OCD & intrusive thoughts, burnout & nervous system exhaustion, internalised shame, attachment patterns, boundaries, grief, neurodivergence, sex work, kink/BDSM and non-monogamy.You might find yourself reaching out if:Your previous experiences of therapy have left you feeling misunderstood and/or that there are things that were off the table/not safe to talk about. You are an expert at analysing, intellectualising, and explaining your pain, but struggle to actually feel it or drop into your body. You get trapped in people-pleasing, over-functioning, or hyper-vigilance - constantly worried that showing your real feelings, setting a boundary, or having a disagreement will lead to rejection or conflict. You are exhausted from masking. Navigating a world built for neurotypical expectations has left your nervous system running on empty. You struggle with self-trust, constantly second-guessing your instincts, feelings, or decisions, and want to build a grounded relationship with your own authority. You feel a disconnect between the logical adult you are today and the young, protective, or anxious parts inside that often feel like they are in the driving seat.
My Fees
